Description
~ Silver in cobaltite cab ~

Offered here is a cabochon of dendritic native silver and cobaltite, from the Cobalt, Ontario, Canada mine. This is a collectibly rare material you definitely don't see everyday, one that's very difficult to find and expensive when you do. It has a high precious silver content, and certainly looks the part, and it is surprisingly heavy for its size. The cab took an unbelievably shiny polish, and although the surface may appear bumpy in the pics, it is quite smooth. The ornate dendrites remind me of snowflakes, and if you'll click to enlarge the backside photo, you'll see what I mean. The stone took a polish that's very reflective and brilliant, almost like chrome, and stubbornly resisted my attempts to photograph it! I think this one's much more striking and beautiful in hand. Surely you'll find a special use for such a unique cab. It has a high rounded dome of 7mm, a designer 'paisley' shape, and a fine polish both front and back.

Size: 44x21mm
Weight: approximately 84 carats
