Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a unique cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah (now closed to any and all collecting). Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly expressive stuff! I'm told this rare opalite gets its beautiful purple coloration from fluorite. This richly colored example has both light and dark shades of purple, with accenting patches of white and black adding oodles of extra character. It has a very high rounded dome of nearly 7mm, a designer 'catseye' shape, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
