Raspberry tube agate cab ~
Offfered here is an interesting cabochon of raspberry tube agate, from Mexico. This highly figured agate is a relatively new material, and I must say I like it a lot! It was mined at the Crown Of Silver psilomelane claims as an extra added bonus. The deep raspberry and pink coloration is due to the infiltration of rhodonite, so the miner tells me. There are also several dark spots of psilomelane in the crystalline agate base, along with some subtle tubes and fortifications, and a couple of sparkling drusy patches twinkling from beneath the surface for added character. It is very translucent, as illustrated by the backlit photo, giving this one a fascinating dimension of depth. There are a few natural voids, which is typical of this material, but I think you'll agree they seem to add to this stone's appeal rather than distract. The cab has a very high rounded dome of nearly 7mm, a designer 'catseye' shape, and a glassy polish both front and back.
