Crown of Silver Psilomelane cab ~
Here is a very special cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relationship. This beauty is loaded with fine bandings in sub-metallic black and shiny silver, along with contrasting dark reddish patch. The red part is opaque, and looks more like jasper than others I've cut. The stone is very highly reflective, making photography quite challenging, but the pics are a great representation. The stone has a well rounded dome, a sweet designer shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
