Petrified wood cab ~
Here is a very large designer cabochon of gorgeous Yellow Cat Flats petrified wood, more accurately called a wood replacement. This totally agatized (and rare) material is a genuine treat to work with, and mighty tough rough to pry from the hands of collectors. -smile- This splendid example features brilliant to-die-for crimson on reddish orange, with fortification banding framing its core of purplish agate. Best of all, I can see only one short fracture feather in this stone, visible at the bottom right in the second photo. That in itself is amazing, because this prized material is all too frequently riddled with heartbreaking fractures. The cab has a very high rounded dome, a gracefully fluid 'flame' shape, and a perfectly glassy polish both front and back.
