Puma agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of puma agate, from Mendoza province, north of Patagonia. Puma agate is a relatively new addition to my lapidary studio, and this is not only the very first cab I've offered, it's the first I've yet seen. What few nodules have been offered quickly became instantly collectible. I think this example is absolutely fascinating, with an almost star shaped ribbon of soft dark red against a background of macro-crystallized quartz. It's full of pretty sparkles, like crushed ice, and does kind of remind one of snow cones. A close look reveals some pseudomorphs, and no doubt those puffy whitish pom poms are sagenitic balls. I should mention that there is some slight feathering here and there, but they're well healed, and the stone is quite solid and stable. It has a high and well rounded dome, a curvy designer shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back.
