Crown of Silver Psilomelane cab ~
Offered here is an unusual cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relation. This one features a dark swirling pattern of fine bands in shiny 'smoked chrome' alternating with sub-metallic black, though perhaps it's a bit more subdued than the photos show. Some of the silvery bands form fortifications around a patch of deep reddish-maroon agate, and several plumes. Yup, plumes! And there's also a long band of clear agate. The stone has a very high rounded dome of 7mm, a crisp designer 'crescent' shape, and a super reflective glassy polish both front and back.
