Marcasite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of marcasite/pyrite with jasper, from an unknown location. A few slabs of this interesting material caught my eye at an estate sale, and I'm mighty glad I grabbed them up. Like Nipomo marcasite in agate, this stone has a bunch of shiny metallic 'chromed islands', but they're in a background of deep maroon and blackish jasper, along with a couple patches of lighter colored quartz. It, too, is an extremely challenging material to photograph, because it's as brilliantly reflective as a mirror, tough to illustrate digitally. Give it a try, I think you'll like it. The cab has a nicely rounded dome of just under 6mm, a strong designer 'shield' shape, and an excellent polish both front and back.
